How Menstrual Period & Cycle Predictor works

The Menstrual Period & Cycle Predictor projects the next 6 months of your cycle based on three inputs: your last period start date, your average period duration (days of bleeding), and your average cycle length. Using this data, the calculator constructs a forward-looking calendar showing predicted period start dates, bleeding intervals, ovulation windows, fertile windows, and estimated PMS windows for each upcoming cycle.

PMS (premenstrual syndrome) symptoms typically appear in the late luteal phase, approximately 7–10 days before menstruation. The calculator estimates PMS onset at 7 days before each projected period start date. These projections help with scheduling, preparation, and awareness of hormonal phase transitions throughout the year.

All cycle data remains entirely within your browser. Period dates stay in browser memory during calculation. Opening a third-party calendar explicitly shares the event details with that service.

How to use Menstrual Period & Cycle Predictor

  1. 1. Enter your last period start date

Select the first day of bleeding in your most recent menstrual period. This is the anchor point for all future cycle projections.

  2. 2. Set your average period duration

Input how many days your period typically lasts (range: 3–10 days). This determines the length of the bleeding phase shown on each cycle card.

  3. 3. Enter your average cycle length

Specify your typical number of days from period start to the next period start (range: 21–45 days). The calculator uses this to space all future cycle predictions.

  4. 4. Review your 6-month forecast

Browse the colour-coded cycle card deck showing each upcoming period, fertile window, PMS window, and ovulation estimate across the next 6 months.

Key features and technical specifications

6-Month Forward Projection

Generates a full half-year calendar showing upcoming period dates, fertile windows, and PMS windows at a glance.

Colour-Coded Phase Badges

Each cycle card uses distinct colour coding: red for period days, pink for PMS, green for fertile window, and teal for ovulation.

PMS Window Estimation

Estimates premenstrual syndrome onset at 7 days before each projected period to help with scheduling and self-care planning.

100% Private Browser Calculation

Zero period dates or cycle data are uploaded. Date arithmetic runs in browser memory; an internet connection is required to open the tool and renew its session.

Update forecasts with actual dates

Six projected cycles are six repetitions of an average interval, not six independent observations. A change in one cycle can shift every later date. Keep a separate record of actual bleeding dates and symptoms, then update the starting date when the next period begins. A calendar cannot explain persistent pain, missed periods or unusual bleeding.

Event and travel planning

Plan around your menstrual cycle when scheduling vacations, sports events, important meetings, or social occasions months in advance.

Conceiving across multiple cycles

Track multiple upcoming fertile windows simultaneously to identify the best months to try to conceive.

Menstrual symptom awareness

Cross-reference PMS windows with mood or physical symptom patterns to recognise premenstrual syndrome and prepare appropriate self-care.

Frequently asked questions

How many cycles does this calculator project?

The calculator projects 6 complete menstrual cycles (approximately 6 months) forward from your last period start date.

What counts as a "cycle length"?

Your cycle length is the number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next period. The first day of bleeding — not spotting — is Day 1. A typical cycle ranges from 21–35 days; 28 days is the commonly cited average but significant individual variation is normal.

Why does my calculated ovulation day sometimes seem off?

The calculation assumes a fixed 14-day luteal phase. In reality, the luteal phase varies between 10–16 days, and other factors such as stress, illness, and body weight shift ovulation timing. For higher precision, combine calendar predictions with basal body temperature (BBT) or LH surge testing.

Is this a fertility tracking app replacement?

No. This is a single-use educational calculator. Dedicated period tracking apps (e.g., Clue, Flo, Natural Cycles) offer longitudinal data collection, symptom logging, and machine-learning–based predictions based on your actual historical data. Always consult a healthcare provider for medical fertility guidance.

Do I need an internet connection, and are my inputs uploaded?

An internet connection is required to open tools and refresh a temporary session. Processing stays on your device; the handshake sends a random challenge, not files or text inputs. Libraries, fonts or models may download. Local processing cannot remove risks from an untrusted device or extension.
