The displayed TDEE is an estimate of maintenance energy, not a direct measurement.
Why is the Mifflin-St Jeor equation preferred over Harris-Benedict?
This implementation uses Mifflin-St Jeor as its selected adult resting-energy equation. Different equations can produce different estimates from the same measurements because their coefficients come from different study populations. A formula is not a direct metabolic measurement. The useful question is whether its assumptions fit the intended comparison, not whether a displayed calorie count should be treated as exact.
How large should my calorie deficit be for fat loss?
The goal options apply fixed arithmetic adjustments to estimated maintenance energy. They are scenarios, not individualized diet prescriptions, and do not guarantee a particular weight change.
