Worked examples and how to read the result
Choose a capture surface and sources explicitly, then review the saved recording.
Record narration for a short demonstration
Example input
Microphone on, webcam off; select one browser tab; record, pause, resume, then stop.
Expected result
A local WebM or MP4 download, depending on browser support.
Paused time is excluded from the recording timer. Shared audio is included only when the browser supplies an audio track for the chosen surface.
Download before closing the tab. Testing with a short clip first helps confirm microphone and shared audio permissions.
How Screen & Webcam Recorder works
Record your screen by choosing optional microphone and webcam sources, pressing Start recording, and selecting the screen, window or browser tab in the browser’s sharing dialog. Pause and resume as needed, then stop to preview and download the recording. Captured video and audio stay in browser memory rather than being uploaded.
The browser controls what can be captured and asks for permission on every new recording session. Shared tab or system audio is available only when the browser and operating system support it for the chosen surface. Requesting shared audio does not guarantee that a track is supplied. The tool reports when none was supplied, while microphone recording requires its own device permission.
A webcam overlay is composited into a local canvas with a selectable corner and a maximum 1080p output for that mode. Without an overlay, the recorder uses the browser-provided screen video track. The recording format is selected from supported WebM or MP4 options. A 250-megabyte buffer limit prevents unlimited memory growth; save the result before starting another session or closing the tab.
How to use Screen & Webcam Recorder
1. Choose recording sources
Enable Microphone for narration, Webcam overlay for a camera inset, and shared audio if needed. Pick the camera corner before recording because these settings stay fixed during the session.
2. Select what to share
Press Start recording and use the browser dialog to choose a tab, window or screen. For tab sound, enable the browser’s audio-sharing option when offered.
3. Record, pause and stop
Use the live preview and timer to follow recording. Pause excludes the pause interval from the elapsed recording time. Press Stop recording or the browser’s Stop sharing control to finish.
4. Preview and download
Play the resulting video, check sound and framing, then download the offered WebM or MP4 file. Your recording is not saved automatically and disappears when the session is cleared.
Key features and technical specifications
Browser-controlled screen capture
Uses explicit screen-sharing permission rather than hidden recording or remote access.
Optional camera and microphone
Adds a corner webcam inset and mixes available shared audio with microphone input.
Local recording controls
Provides pause, resume, a captured-byte readout, playback and a downloadable result, with an explicit memory limit.
Practical use cases
Record a software tutorial
Capture a browser tab and microphone narration, optionally adding a webcam introduction or explanation in a corner.
Demonstrate a reproducible issue
Show the steps leading to a bug in a selected application window, then save a short video for a support ticket.
Create a presentation walkthrough
Record slides with narration and inspect the saved result before sharing. Use a screen without unrelated notifications or private information.
Frequently asked questions
How do I record my screen without installing software?
Open the tool in a supported desktop browser over HTTPS, press Start recording, and choose a screen, window or tab in the sharing dialog. Stop and download the resulting video.
Why is there no system or tab audio?
Support depends on browser, operating system and capture surface. Choose a browser tab and enable its audio-sharing checkbox when available. The tool reports when the shared stream contains no audio.
Can I record my webcam and microphone too?
Yes. Enable either source before starting and grant device permission. Camera composition uses a local canvas and can slow down if the recorder tab is hidden.
Does screen recording work on mobile?
Many mobile browsers do not expose browser screen capture. The tool checks availability and recommends a supported desktop browser when capture is unavailable.
Which video format will I download?
The recorder selects an available WebM codec or MP4 fallback according to browser support. The download extension matches the actual selected format.
Where is my recording stored?
It stays in this tab’s memory until you download or clear it. The tool stops at a 250-megabyte buffer limit. Closing the tab or starting another recording discards the in-memory copy.
Your browser asks which surface to share. Webcam composition is capped at 1080p and may slow down when this tab is hidden. Shared audio depends on browser, operating system and chosen surface.

Maximum recording buffer: 250 MB. Desktop browsers work best. Some browsers produce recordings without seekable duration metadata; playback and download still work. Check the saved video and audio before relying on it.
